Action Lesotho works to support the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) in Lesotho.
Action Lesotho works through a Basotho Team which encourages community participation and involvement in all our community development programmes. The Action Lesotho team also works with community groups to identify and prioritise the needs in the local area. These include the development of small business initiatives, training/education and care-in-the-community projects. We believe that the way out of poverty is through access to information, education and trade.
Action Lesotho is a community-based voluntary organisation that has been in existence since 2006. In its support of the MDGs Action Lesotho aims to assist and empower communities in Lesotho and alleviate the devastating effects of poverty and HIV/AIDS by working closely with community led groups to jointly support vulnerable and orphaned children, the disabled and those unable to gain employment by developing a variety of initiatives.
Action Lesotho is involved in agricultural, educational, health and micro-enterprise projects. In order to maximise the success of our projects, we draw on a wide range of expertise from Lesotho, South Africa, Ireland and elsewhere thus helping ensure the development of sustainable projects through capacity building. Once we have identified the needs of the community through consultation & research, we look to attact in-country solutions such as local and National Government initiatives, other NGOs with specific programmes, local business support as well as Basotho professional & voluntary input.
Action Lesotho’s work is focused on the border town of Maputsoe and the surrounding villages. The charity links villages in Lesotho with villages and towns in Ireland to enable participation that enriches people in both countries.
