What makes a good second hand book shop?
Three things come to mind- a great selection of books, affordable prices, and a pleasant, welcoming environment to browse and explore books at your ease.
All of these are on offer at our bookshop in Tralee. With nearly 10,000 books to choose from, across a comprehensive range of subjects- covering areas that include popular fiction; thrillers; classics; art; travel; business; self-help; gardening; cookery, children’s; young adults and antiquarian- it is definitely worth a visit.
The shop is run solely by our volunteer staff, who keep our costs low by dedicating their time and effort to its operation. As a result, in 2015 we made a contribution of €23,000 from book sales to our projects in Lesotho. Some of our more popular categories include children’s books and recently ‘Blind date with a book’ where payment is made by donation to our Breakfast Club box, which provides essential meals for over 70 young children every day.
If you are decluttering your home, emptying the attic, or just getting rid of books that were left to you but you don’t need them, please consider donating them to us. Every €2 or more we get for a book goes a very long way on our community intervention projects, from agriculture to enterprise, all with the aim of breaking the cycle of poverty in Lesotho.
